Easy to fit, clear concise instructions
The template and brackets were easy to use and fit well. The bottom is covered with foam and fabric, the top is just fabric. The rear edge was rounded on the bottom corner for ease on the head if/when it was bumped.

We were so excited to find the brackets and a template for the overhead shelf. It made it super easy to build and install perfect — the first time! That is probably a first for us to not have to redo something :-). We covered it in the Marathon Plus fabric and it looks fantastic - plus a little padding never hurts. Great place to store our window covers and our dog ball basket.
Details see on our Instaprofile @vanture_is_calling 😍 we love the shelf. perhaps it would be good if there were 2 more supports in the rear area (towards the windshield - see 3rd photo). Especially if, like us, a plastic plate is used instead of a wooden plate (because of the weight). Or do you have an ofher idea of how we could reinforce this so that the plate doesn't sag there? Perfect for what I was looking for. I got the kit and the fit was spot on. Used 3/4’’ marine ply for added strength, and painted brackets and bolts black to match. Glued foam an fabric on with 3M then added nice piece of black walnut with inlays. Looks Great!
This template and hardware were just what I needed. It was super easy to construct and install. The final product end up being super clean; even looks OEM. Definitely recommend this product!
Very happy with the Vancillary headliner shelf! Very straightforward build and installation. I added to the shelf a couple of LED lights with the toggle switch above the seats and a switch/dimmer for my Thule awning light strip (next project to the power both). My upholstery skills need more practice but I am happy with how it turned out.
Hi this was an easy project to complete .I made a different opening that creates a oval look to the enclosure.I like this a lot .I would take a picture but it's at a shop getting upholstered. Thanks for being so quick at sending the template .It fit perfectly.

This product is the bomb. I was looking at similar shelves for months and found them way too expensive. And then I stumbled upon vancillary products. The brackets are top quality, and the templates are spot on. I could use my own plywood and it all matches the cabinets. Recommend to anyone who has basic skills. I nailed it myself and my skills are limited.

Best for the budget Was great . Loved the set up. Couple have used a bit more guidance on how to best to use the template. Which line to cut on. But made for a great shelf .
This is a great shortcut for DIY’ers. If you have any experience templating large curved surfaces you will appreciate this product. It is on the pricey side but saves a substantial amount of time and frustration. Some reviewers have complained about the height but it is very well thought out as you still get plenty of space above your sun visor and it reduces the frequency of bashing your head off of the lip(which will still happen). Great customer service/support from these guys too.
Template made a gap in the front above the visors and is pushed flat to the center portion of the headliner. Rear of the board is about 1/4 from the back of the headliner. I expected more for the price.
This kit is worth every penny. The brackets and templates make cutting and installing the shelf much easier and is a much more economical option than buying pre-made shelf.

This is great, it allows you to make exactly what you want. I wanted an aluminum L beam across the back so things wouldn't fall out and for strength. And I wanted it to match with the interior, I used speaker carpet. The kit has great plans, quality materials and fits perfectly.
This is an amazing idea! Super helpful and completely worth it. My husband I put it up together. You do need to have some skills at the jigsaw but otherwise it’s easy! It took us less than an hour to cut and install everything . Thank you for producing this!!!

Received the package quickly. Followed the simple online instructions, jig sawed for a bit, few drill holes and then applied some fabric.... Only 4 screws need to be loosened inside the van, and the mounting hardware is installed. Locked it down and all is good. Looking forward for the first trip with the new shelf. Had a small issue, and these guys got back to be so quick.. love great customer service!
The Vancillary Sprinter Van Headliner Shelf kit made it as simple as pie to add an overhead storage area above the driver and passenger area. Following the template and their directions it came out looking like a factory installation. Everything fit perfectly. With the Baltic Birch plywood, spray adhesive, and material from Hobby Lobby it cost about $165 dollars including the Vancillary kit. I couldn't be happier with the way this project turned out.
This shelf fit perfectly in our 2010 Pleasureway Ascent (2008 Sprinter). We followed the directions on the Vancillary website without exception. Admittedly, I was nervous when I measured my van and the template. I thought the shelf would be too wide and never fit. I emailed Sean to verify I had the correct template. He responded really quickly and confirmed it would work and I should go for it. I’m so happy I did. I am a novice wood worker (this was my first time using a router- I love how finished it looks without the sharp wood corners. I used 1/2” prefinished Baltic birch. We can still easily walk from the cab to the back and it sits well above the air ride controls. We’re so happy we went this route and made our own!
I installed this using 3/4" birch plywood for the shelf. Worked very well. The height is very good in that I allows for storage, but it isn't terribly intrusive into the cabin area for me and my wife. She's 5'7", and I'm 5'9" for reference. I put some material on the bottom of the plywood to reduce reflection in the cabin, and I have yet to completely trim out the front. Well, and I need to complete my Sprinter conversion.
Everyone that has ventured to do their own build, knows how hard it is to get things right in a van where there aren't many straight angles (if any) Having such a product for the DIYers is great! I am very pleased with how the shelve turned out! I did however have to do over as for me the cutout was a bit narrower than my headliner. It wasn't by much but your mileage may vary. I don't believe all headliners would be exactly the same. The front however where things matter the most is accurate and fits perfectly. I'd say create a hard template from some scrap plywood first and adjust as you see fit. It is important to follow the directions and have your brackets positioned correctly. I want to mention that Vancillary helped me a great deal to get things right with sending me correct bracket kit after I bought the wrong ones. Great to have a product from people that understand the valife and the community!

Basic woodworking skills. You're already building out a van - this is easy in comparison! Required tools: Jigsaw with a wood-cutting blade, drill with 7/32” or ¼” bit, scissors, clear packing tape, 3/8" (14 mm) wrench, screwdriver with a flat head, pencil, Philips, T-25, and T-30 Torx bits.

To give you an idea of the shelf positioning, measure 10" down from the top center of the headliner edge. That is where the shelf will rest on top of the mounting hardware. We suggest a maximum load of 50 lbs.

We recommend 1/2" Baltic Birch if staining or painting, or 1/2" bamboo plywood if leaving it untreated. But ¾” plywood can work too! Click here to get more details via the installation manual.

In the guide, we used a "Church Pew Fabric". Feel free to Google/Amazon to get a sense of the colors and patterns available. No foam is needed for an underlay. For adhesion, we recommend using something simple like 3M Super 77. Simple and easy.

Absolutely. We've had quite a few people with static bathrooms or other structures that butt right up against the headliner cavity. You can tilt our brackets sideways during installation, which allows the shelf to be installed from underneath.

The curtain airbags above the side windows deploy downwards. Our brackets screw into existing mounting points on the vehicle chassis to avoid any interference with the vehicle safety systems. Please note that we haven’t done a live test with our product and the airbag system, and make no safety guarantee.
